PS 2050 - Personality and Individual Differences
Associated Term: 2022/23 Academic Session
Learning Objectives:
The course aims to provide knowledge on theory and research in key topics in personality and individual differences. General issues in theory and research in personality will be explored, as well as the difference between personality and individual differences. A brief history of personality and individual differences will be provided. Students will be equiped with methods of evaluating theories in personality. Then, key topics in personality and individual differences will be reviewed including both attending to theory and to research. Where topics relate to one another, there will be a comparison between topics with the aim of increasing the integrative understanding of personality. Pre-requisites: - Learning Outcomes: By the end of the module students should be able to: 1. Describe and compare different perspectives on the study of personality, including alternative approaches to the study of individual differences 2. Describe different approaches to the measurement of personality and individual differences 3. Describe, understand, and evaluate research on personality 4. Describe, understand, and evaluate selected topics in research on individual differences 5. Understand the conceptual and historical issues underlying social psychology (e.g. the social and cultural construction of psychology, political and ethical issues in psychology).

Technical Requirements: The total number of notional learning hours associated with the course are 150. These will normally be broken down as follows: 20 hour(s) of Lectures across 10 week(s) 130 hour(s) of Guided Independent Study Formative Assessment: - Summative Assessment: Essay (2000 words) - 30% Open book timed examination (2000 words) 70%
