PS 2021 - Cognitive Psychology
Associated Term: 2022/23 Academic Session
Learning Objectives:
This course aims to provide an overall account of some of the main theoretical and empirical issues in key areas within cognitive psychology. It covers a wide range of topics, including: selective attention,, problem solving, reasoning, judgement, blindsight, unilateral neglect, social attention , word recognition, and cognitive psychology of sleep. Pre-requisites: None Learning Outcomes: By the end of the module students should be able to: 1. Develop an understanding of major theoretical approaches within cognitive psychology 2. Develop knowledge of empirical research relating to major theoretical approaches in key areas 3. Develop the ability to evaluate both theory and research in cognitive psychology in a critical fashion. 4. Understand the conceptual and historical issues underlying cognitive psychology (e.g. psychology as a science, conceptual and historical paradigms and models).

Technical Requirements: The total number of notional learning hours associated with the course are 150. These will normally be broken down as follows: 20 hour(s) of Lectures across 10 week(s) 130 hour(s) of Guided Independent Study Formative Assessment: Moodle Quiz Summative Assessment: MCQ quizzes (10 hours) - 20% Open book timed examination (2000 Words) - 80%
