PM 5004 - International Strategic and Technology Management

Learning Objectives:
This course aims to provide an in-depth understanding of the importance of linking technology to corporate strategy, and of the tools and techniques that will enable middle and senior managers to develop, implement and manage technology strategy and innovation at the business and corporate levels to meet the new competitive challenges of the knowledge-driven world economy in the 21st Century. Learning Outcomes: A deep understanding of the key characteristics of the converging scientific and technological revolutions under way in the 21st Century ( Bio-Nano-Info-Cogno Interface), their impact on technological trajectories, convergence and discontinuities, and their implications for technology and corporate strategy in existing manufacturing AND service sectors, and the creation of entirely new technologies and industries The ability to develop a technology strategy and integrate it with business unit and corporate strategy in a global context using a variety of mechanisms, tools and techniques The ability to identify, manage, protect and deploy the core competencies and IP portfolio of the firm The ability to strategically manage the R&D project portfolio and knowledge sharing and -creating networks and alliances to meet corporate objectives in the knowledge –driven, fiercely competitive and globalised world economy characterised by rapid change , the diffusion of digital communications and information technologies and tools and global warming

Technical Requirements: The total number of notional learning hours associated with course are 200. These will normally be broken down as follows: 30 hour(s) of Lecture(s) across 10 week(s) 170 hours of Guided Independent Study Formative Assessment: Oral Assessment Summative Assessment: Group Project (2000 Words) - 40% Report (4500 Words) - 60%
